Any Of You Have A Parent Who Loves Older Cars?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010 | Expensive Cars with 8 Comments

My dad does. LOL He has a Sunbeam Tiger, a 1953 Mercury pickup truck, and a 1952 MGTD. I think I got all those names right…XD He used to own an old Mercedes, but it wasn’t an expensive one, I’m pretty sure.
He grew up with a dad who owned a car dealership, and he was a mechanic until he hurt his neck.

My Friend Who Keeps Her Cars For 10 Years Bought A Toyota Prius. Was This Wise?

Friday, February 26th, 2010 | Expensive Cars with 8 Comments

I think she made a mistake because this hybrid car has parts that will break in a few years and it will be very expensive to fix and buy replacement parts. She’s saving a ton on gas but she’ll lose money in the long run because she’ll probably keep the car for 10 years or more. What do you know about it or what do you think?

People Who Know About Buying Cars: Help!?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010 | Expensive Cars with 3 Comments

I’m a high school student and need a decent car. My goal is 10 or less years old and less than 150k miles. The newer and less miles, the better. BUT my budget is $3500.
I’ve never had to pick out a car before! My parents aren’t helpful. Please help me out and answer my questions. I don’t know anything about picking out cars. Please don’t let me get screwed by some crappy dealership. You’ve probably been in my shoes before.
QUESTIONS:
1. I’ve been looking on craigslist. What’s another website where I can look for used cars in my local area?
2. Does high mileage always mean it’s bad? Are there any exceptions?
3. Considering the fact that money is severly limited for me, would it be better to buy a more expensive car with no problems, or a cheaper car with a few problems and pay to fix them myself?
4. What is a brand of car that is less expensive than usual but still puts out somewhat reliable cars?
5. Is Saturn good or do they have a bad rep?
6. As a minor, what other ways besides having a part time job could I make money?
Please help. I need it!

Odd Cars In Tracks’ Parking Lots?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010 | Expensive Cars with 7 Comments

Just curious, but I’m wondering how many people have seen odd or “out-of-place” cars at whatever NASCAR tracks they’ve been at. They could be rare cars, very expensive cars, or cars that you wouldn’t think you’d ever see in a NASCAR parking lot.
- 2 years ago @ Pocono: a $180,000 MB CL65 AMG parked 3 cars down from me in the grassy part where there’s a bunch of rocks and dirt on the ground. link – http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/luxu…
- Last year @ Loudon: an $80,000 Range Rover parked a few hundred feet from me on that wide paved road that goes around the track’s parking lot (I found out it was $80k b/c it was the “Supercharged” version). link – http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Dri…
- Also @ Loudon: a REAL R33 (I assume real b/c it was right-hand drive)
The Range Rover had a small “17″ flag sticking out of its window on one of those plastic clip-on poles but the Benz and Skyline had nothing.
They were just cars I never expected to see at a NASCAR event! All 3 cars had Mass. plates.
Anyone have any odd cars they’ve seen at a track’s parking lot?
